Future TV http://news.com.com/Japan+project+aims+to+ create+3D+TV+by+2020/2100-1041_3-5839341.html?tag=nefd.top Smell, touch, and 3D from TV? You shake your head no and think that's silly. How could you smell something via TV? Japan is staking one billion yen ($9,035,056) on making this technology a reality. Matsushita Electric Industrial and Sony are involved so far. Researchers believe that a three-dimensional TV projected from the floor could include all of these features. Imagine commercials with the smell of cooking steaks, hamburgers, fried chicken, and more to lure you away to make a midnight snack purchase. Then again, with so many movies sharing toilet scenes, maybe there are some smells that don't need to be shared. Click the link above for the full story from CNet. In a related article at http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/index.php?p=1733, ZDNet bloggers call this the recombinant web and suggest it is a new technology that CEOs and CIOs ought to track. Line Between Reality and Fantasy Blurring http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/games/wowworld.html Tap the link above to read an article that gives an interesting view on how in the future the line between the real world and online virtual worlds may get a little blurry. True, the article is a bit of a lampoon, but if you strip it down a tad, there are some bits of truth that will barb you, giving you more than a little to think about. There are some interesting questions poised in the essay. For example, can you have property rights to things created in a virtual world? What happens when somebody steals your virtual propery? Will people sell virtual property? Apparently so. As the author notes, you can go to eBay and search for WOW Gold and sure enough people are selling gold from the game and for a hefty price. One seller was selling 500 WOW Gold units for $57.99.
