iPhone - First Review Roundup Over the weekend it looks like more than half a million people have purchased one the sleek, elegant new iPhones. No doubt about it - they are stunning, cool, and the penultimate new geek status symbol. But it seems that the super-charged launch wasn't without its share of problems. And reviewers are pointing out some short-comings that may suggest it isn't a bad thing to wait a bit before taking the plunge and buying an iPhone. Here's a short list of some reviews you may want to read, if you are on the verge of buying an iPhone. The Register - El Reg gets an iPhone - summary of snafus encountered. MercuryNews.com - Review: iPhone combines slick features, with some big compromises - a pretty balanced review that concludes that the iPhone fell short of expectations. engadget - iPhone not supported under 64-bit Windows XP or Vista -- oops - Ouch - no support for Vista 64bit OS. ExtremeTech - Ten Reasons Why You Shouldn't Buy an iPhone - some seriouis criticisms mixed with a little tongue-in-cheek. Slashdot - Activation Problems in iPhone Paradise - hundreds of user comments on activation problems Thomas Hawk's Digital Connection - AT&T iPhone Activation Hell - a well documented journal of one reviewer's incredibly awful activation experience engadget - Poll: got iPhone activation problems? - at the time of publication, the poll was showing 38.6% of people taking the poll still hadn't resolved activation problems when they visited engadget and another 12.3 that had issues which were resolved. Just over 50% reporting problems out of some 13,000 or so poll participants seems pretty significant. Aside from the poll, check out the videos at engadget on the iPhone - great stuff on the user interface. | ||
