HP Networked Printer Not Vista Friendly
Just before installing Vista 64 Ultimate, I purchased an HP Deskjet 6980 printer so that I could run it on my home network from multiple computers. For Windows XP it operates as advertised. For Vista, it is a huge disappointment. The HP site at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00809839&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=467982&lang=en advises that no downloadable Vista drivers are available at this time.
HP does offer a workaround for a USB connection, but that isn't very helpful to owners of these printers that are using them on a network. If I had wanted a USB printer I would have spent less and got one that just did USB.
You may guess from this post and previous posts, that the problems getting peripheral devices to work with Vista are frustrating at best. It would be nice to upgrade to an Operating System without the need to buy all new peripheral devices and it would be even better if peripheral vendors were a little more aggressive in getting drivers out to support their customers.
